What actions does the hospital take related to Covid prevention?
The hospital follows CDC guidelines.
What is the average length of stay?
While the average length of stay for each individual varies, the BHU is committed to both acute stabilization of symptoms and setting individuals up for long term physical, emotional, and psychological wellness. Most individuals do not stay more than seven to ten days.
What is the visitation/ phone policy?

Phone calls: There is access to a community phone during free times at no cost.
Do you take insurance?
We accept most private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. We will file all claims with your insurance company. The amount paid by your insurance will depend on your insurance policy and coverage.
What payment options are accepted?
Cash, check, major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express).
How will the BHU ensure my safety?
Physical and emotional safety is our number one priority. We provide an environment that is engineered for maximum safety. We maintain 24-hour observations/support with the appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Are private rooms available?
We have both private and semi-private rooms. Private rooms are at the discretion of the psychiatrist and cannot be guaranteed.
What can a patient bring with them to treatment?
Bourbon Community will provide toiletries, meals, snacks and drinks. Patient’s names will be labeled on the inside of all clothing and laundered by staff. Patients may bring with them:
- Three (3) sets of clothing
- Pajamas
- Unopened packs of cigarettes
- Robe (no belt) and slippers
- Sweater or light jacket (No drawstring)
- Socks
- Under garments (adult pull ups are provided)
- Comfortable pair of shoes (no laces)
- Reading material (soft cover, no staples)
Which items are NOT allowed in the Unit?
- Cell phones
- Razors
- Hair dryers, curling irons, etc.
- Shoelaces, belts, suspenders or drawstrings
- Spiral-bound books
- Cologne, perfume, shaving cream or make-up
- Safety pins, tweezers or scissors, nail clippers
- Lighters, Vapes, pipes, opened packs of cigarettes
- Electronics (laptops, kindles, radios, cameras, etc…)
- Food or drinks
- Weapons or sharp objects
- We encourage patients to not bring valuables such as watches or jewelry. If this is not possible, valuables will be locked in a safe until discharge.
Is Bourbon Community Hospital an accredited hospital?
Yes. Bourbon Community Hospital has full Joint Commission and CMS Accreditation.
Where can I find a list of standard charges?
A link to a list of the standard charges for items and services provided by the hospital as required by Section 2718 (e) of the Public Health Service Act is available below. This list represents gross charges for individual services and does not reflect personalized estimates of hospital charges that may be applicable based on insurance discounts nor is it indicative of a patient’s out of pocket cost. In addition, several factors may affect pricing, including, but not limited to the time of selection, additional expenses such as laboratory or professional fees, and additional services that depend on an individual’s specific health condition.
