April 30, 2021
Bourbon Community Hospital, part of the LifePoint Health Central Kentucky market, is happy to announce that Bourbon Behavioral Health nurse Sam Bologna, RN, has been named the 2021 Mercy Award winner for outstanding compassionate care, exemplifying the spirit and values upon which the LifePoint company was founded.
Bologna was nominated for making patients and staff feel special, and uplifting and encouraging others in times of need with his caring and compassionate nature. A dedicated volunteer, Bologna is known as a “superstar” in the community and abroad, participating in mission trips to Guatemala six times with plans to go again this summer.
He is also involved with local youth groups, helping with activities, summer camps, bible studies and encouraging self-esteem, self-worth and faith in God. Bologna also serves as a deacon of his church, Bedford Acres Christian Church, and is actively involved with the Special Olympics, and helping people in the community with physical and social needs and addictions.
“Sam perfectly captures the essence of the Mercy Award, as recognized by his peers,” said Tommy Haggard, CEO of Bourbon Community Hospital. “The fullness of his compassion knows no bounds as it extends beyond his work environment unto everyone he meets. He is genuinely a blessing to Bourbon Community Hospital.”
The LifePoint Mercy Award program memorializes the legacy of the late Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and CEO. Each hospital annually selects one local Mercy Award winner who consistently strives to embrace Scott’s caring philosophies and reach the high standards he set for LifePoint. The Mercy Award is the highest honor a LifePoint Health employee can receive.
